About Me

THE A FUND

Alexander Innes Holly, 'A,' as we called him, was a boy filled with dreams, hopes, and plans. Although he was only fourteen when he died, he had traveled extensively in Europe and Central America, lived in New York City and Los Angeles, and these experiences produced in him a fascination for architecture and archaeology.

And what are architecture and archaeology but the physical evidence of the dreams, hopes, and plans of our species: archeology recreating the world of those who have gone before us, and architecture mapping the world we live in now, and the one on the edge of being built?

The 'A' Fund for Architecture and Archeology at Hobart and William Smith Colleges has been created in Alexander's memory to help fulfill the dreams, hopes and plans of generations of students studying these subjects for years to come.

OUR DREAM

The mission of The "A" Fund is to serve as a living memorial to Alexander Holly at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Through the growth of this fund, Alexander's love of learning will benefit others by creating opportunity.

OUR HOPE

Scholarships help relieve the debt burden on students and enable colleges to assist deserving students. By contributing to The "A" Fund, you are crafting opportunities for students committed to academic achievement and personal success, and in doing so are shaping future generations.

OUR PLAN

Income generated each year by donations to The "A" Fund is used to provide scholarship assistance for Hobart and William Smith students entering the third year of study who plan to major in architecture or archaeology. Eligible students must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated financial need. Students may continue to receive this scholarship as long as they meet the criteria.
